Pray to be blessed
or a blessing?
By Bill Marklein
Gratitude is a powerful emotion. The ability to feel grateful for all the tiny miracles around us can transform one’s day—and life. Albert Einstein said, “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is.” This is an awesome inward feeling of being blessed. In servant leadership, there is a transformational shift when you not only pray to be blessed but more importantly when you pray to be a blessing. Pause and think about that. When we pray to be a blessing, we become a shining light for others. We think about others before ourselves. We put others’ needs first in the most humble and admired way. We become an instant change-agent no longer waiting for external conditions or behaviors.
Praying to be a blessing to others is a powerful mind, heart and soul shift. You can be the reason someone smiles today. You can be the reason someone loves their job. You can be the reason someone learns new skills to achieve a better career path. You can be the reason someone feels kindness. You can celebrate others’ achievements big or small. You can be the person you want to work with. Praying to be a blessing is the soulful inward fuel for servant leadership. We are designed to be a blessing to others—to love and serve our neighbor. If you want a real leadership legacy, pray to be a blessing.
